About The Artist

I studied Fine Art at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, graduating in Painting and I have continued to paint ever since. When my children were young, I started to glass-engrave, as this didn’t need the same commitment as a large oil painting. I still continued to paint, but to a lesser degree and mainly watercolours.

I have also taught Life Drawing and Basic Design part-time in various colleges of Further Education, mainly to Architecture and Interior Design students.

My paintings are based on Realism, Observation and Recording. It might be a particular event or a sequence of events, a time of the year, an unusual happening or just something I think is beautiful or interesting. I want to show ordinary scenes in a compelling way; I want to draw the attention to what are quite often everyday occurrences.
I paint in Oil, Acrylic and Watercolour and also take the occasional sculptural commission.

About The Artist

I specialise in creating bright, vibrant pastel paintings, using intense colour, lighting and atmospheric effects, which enable me to transform simple subjects into the magical. I focus on Italian, Mediterranean and English themes, from landscape to more close-up studies of windows, doorways, floral and still-life subjects. I also enjoy working in pen and wash

Born in 1952, I come from a long line of artists and can trace my ancestry back to Richard Wilson, the well-known 18th century English “romantic” painter. I studied at the City of London Polytechnic and the Wimbledon School of Art before embarking on a career as freelance artist and illustrator.

In addition to book-jacket illustration, I have produced work for television, films and museums, and have painted murals for commercial companies, and more recently, as a Lecturer in Art and Design.

My first love, however, has always been landscape painting. Capturing the effects of lighting and atmosphere, enables me to turn simple objects into the magical, always with the intention to convey the very essence of the subject, rather than just merely state the obvious.

Work has been exhibited in various galleries in London and the South East.

About The Artist

Hildegarde was born on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, Northern Cape Province, South Africa.

She studied Social Science at the University of the Orange Free State, but has always been passionately involved in painting. She came to the UK in the “Sixties”, is married with two children, and lives in Surrey where she teaches and paints in her Studio in Molesey.

Hildegarde is primarily a “Colourist”. Her work is much influenced by her roots and she brings warmth and vibrancy into her paintings where with gay abandon uses colour and paint in a way that has been described as, “delightfully sensual”. Whether tackling cluttered Still Lifes of everyday objects, or landscapes of Southern Africa and Europe, she delights in depicting the effects of light and dark. The “Impressionists” and “Scottish Colourists” have had a major influence on her work. Although mainly an oil painter, Hildegarde also uses watercolour and mixed media.

Of Painting as an activity, she says “No matter how demanding painting can sometimes be, it always fills me with a huge sense of satisfaction and joy. In painting I escape into a World of my own, where I can revel in creating images with colour, shape and form.”

Galleries and Exhibitions

Hildegarde has sold to clients world-wide. Her paintings are represented by Art Galleries in London and South Africa. Her work is regularly exhibited with the Chelsea Art Society, and has been represented at the Affordable Art, and Battersea Art Fairs . In September 2007 she was Guest Artist for “The Family Law in Partnership”, Bedford Chambers, Covent Garden, London, and exhibited in May 2008 hanging at the Royal British Artists Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London. One of her works, “Daffodils” was recently auctioned at the Royal Academy on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Research.

Painting Commissions

Hildegarde undertakes commissions for Still Lifes incorporating client’s colour schemes and precious possessions as well as painting private homes and gardens.

Art Talks & Demonstrations / Art Tutor - Including Cruise Liners

Hildegarde regularly runs painting workshops and demonstrations for a number of Art Societies and exhibits both in South Africa and England. She has sold to clients world-wide. For the last four years Hildegarde has been a watercolour instructor for major Cruise Lines.

Art Groups

Hildegarde is a member of Molesey Art Society, Chelsea Art Society, Sunbury on Thames Art Society & Thames Valley Art Society and Weybridge Art Society.
